Setting up House (11/03/2012)

I’m in the process of buying a flat at the moment.

I’ve always rented flats before, and buying them is quite a change. It means I can adapt the style of the flat to how I like it. I can take things out. I can put things in. I’m going to have to buy furniture. Really, it’s a brave, new, adult world.

What I’ve realised is that there are ideas and solutions for designing houses that are nice and easy to live in. A lot of people have problems with their houses that are either because they did things in the wrong order, didn’t think about them or just forgot the solution. I’m going to make sure I keep track of solutions when they occur to me (kind of the whole point of this site) and tag them here under “house ideas” so that I know about them.

One of the first things I’m going to do is redo my kitchen. Having looked at quite a lot of flats and kitchens I think I want something a bit like this:

I really like the light white cupboards, with he vertical handles and the wooden effect top.

I also really like this living room:

In particular the clean light walls and the thick wooden shelves.

It’s all very exciting, I just want to make sure I don’t have any great ideas or solutions and then forget them.

Working from Home (08/03/2012)

I’m working from home today.

I used to work from home once a week, but recently, I’ve stopped, for a variety of reasons. Mainly, it just wasn’t part of my routine.

This is ridiculous. Working from home is great – not just because it cuts the commute (which saves a bit of money), but mainly for quality of life. It just slows your pace of life down, which is great.

I need to make sure I do this every week from now on.
